As I lay here enjoying the warmth and brightness of the sun.
I kept reading because she ends up at Sneaton Castle at Whitby. Whitby was one of the many places I loved to go as a child. Along with many other places that have long faith connections and North Yorkshire is rich with them – fountains, reivaux, byland and many other Abbeys.
Mount Grace Priory I particularly remember as one year when the Thirsk and Northallerton Methodist Circuits joined together the service took place in the grounds. I remember it well as somehow my minister at the time persuaded me to play John Wesley as he had preached in Osmotherly a few times. As I had long hair at the time my minister put me in a cassock and asked me to walk from one place to another with a very big bible. I know someone on the day took a photo but I’m so glad I’ve not seen it since! (I refused to have talk sprinkled over my hair from his later years!)
I’ve always felt there is something special about those types of places, a deeper closeness to God – maybe because they were built on prayer.
I’ve often wondered how I would have coped living in a community like that, one day I may find out… Or maybe not!…
