We are on a journey – God and I… Day 1 of retreat.

Along with many other Methodist Presbyters who are due to be ordained on the 3rd July, we met today in Malvern for our pre-ordination retreat. A place I’ve not been to before, worth coming though as it is a beautiful area. The grounds of the Conference Center are stunning and even has a swimming pool and tennis court!

This retreat as we keep being told is a gift from the church. A time to rest, relax and focus on the event ahead of us. Also recognising the places and people we have left behind for this short time, our churches, family and friends. I bring along a little reminder of those I have served the last two years. At one of the bible study groups last week we spent time outside church, listening to and praying for the world around us. We were all given a pebble to remind us of our connection to the wonderful world God has created, and the connections we have made together. This week as I travel towards ordination, I bring all those wonderful times with me. God filled times that remind me of the call God has placed heart.

Our evening prayers reminded us of the places we have come from and we marked them on a big map with a candle.

As the evening drew on and it got darker, it gave a mesmerising effect. All of these candles – these shining lights in those places. For me it comes with the knowledge that I can only shine as I rely on God, and as those in and around my churches allow both God and myself to bring out there lights…
