The power of water

Having a week on retreat has consisted mainly of rain and wind…

Having thought during the week how water is life giving. In the old and New Testament the word water is used for salvation and eternal life that God offers to each of us through our faith in his Son.

Water also symbolises spiritual cleansing, seeing the power of the water around this week you can see from the colour of the water of what it is able to strip away as it flows downstream.

“Streams of living water”

Living Water – John 7

37Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38″He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'” 39But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

And of course being born of water – Baptism

Rebirth, regeneration, new life through faith

The power and force of water around this week needs respect, water can also be destructive. Our bodies need water to survive but too much water can destroy life. Like with a life of faith – we need to find balance, a balance that keeps us healthy and alive so we can enjoy the gifts this world has to offer.
