Time to reflect

With so much turmoil and heartache across the world over the last few weeks, my preparation for moving and taking up my new role seems insignificant in many ways. Though there needs to be some preparation, so last week I took a few hours out to reflect at St Antony’s Priory in Durham. http://www.stantonyspriory.co.uk/

On such a beautiful day it was easy to shut out the world around me but the tragedies that I knew were going on, could not be shut out of my heart or mind.

During every day there are things happening around the world which confound me, I have no doubt I will see this in ministry as well. I will see the joys and sorrows in life as I walk alongside others. I will see the daily struggles of those around me and try to find my own peace to the injustices in this world.

Where do you find that place amongst the business in life that gives the time, space and quietness to dig deep. It’s not as if there will always be the time once a month, fortnight or week to stop and take time out to digest everything we see and experience.

There will be times when I need to take time amongst the business to reflect and digest the things I encounter. As I sat in the sun, the quietness of the surroundings, the peace and solitude in a place like at the Priory, even though you could hear the noise of traffic in the distance! It was a place that had a feeling of peace… a place where I could stop and reflect.

I pray for all those around the world whose lives are turned upside down by the tragedies surrounding them, that somehow… somewhere… some way… they can find a place where they can find some comfort and peace!

“Out of the clouds comes the brightness of the day.

Out of the sunshine comes the clarity of your direction.

Hidden amongst the undergrowth a magical world can be found.

Where the leaves on a plant can seem gigantic in the world of an Ant.

From the path at your feet you find your direction.

This is the way to God…

You are the face of God…

You are his voice and his hands…

You are God’s brightness to others”

  1. Peter Beetlestone says:

Lovely, thank you – a woman after my own heart. I tried to express the same sort of sentiments in the “Shopper’s Service” yesterday. It’s hard. Verses from Colossians 1 helps me.

Look forward to seeing you soon.
