My Grandad, a farmer and man full of faith. Along with others in my life has been an inspiration and someone I admire hugely…
As this terms placement draws to an end I now see why my Grandad was passionate about going hospital visiting every week.
During my time on placement with the Chaplaincy at York Hospital, I have experienced the joy and gratitude patients have when someone goes to visit them particularly if they have no other visitors, to share their concerns and to pray with them.
Many years ago he tried to persuade me that I should go visiting, I must have been in my early teens at the time. It was the only time I can recall where my Grandma told him to leave me alone as it probably wasn’t my thing! I never was a very talkative person so striking up conversation with strangers filled me with dread.
I am grateful for the way he has shared his faith throughout his life and still does. When I visited him in January he still has his pan of porridge for breakfast, while reading his bible and praying. Both my Grandad and Grandma along with many others have been inspirational. Thank you to all of them!
