This week my placement at the Arthur Rank Centre is one filled with new understanding and admiration for the work the centre is doing. They are also introducing me to other organisations which are rural focussed. The diversity and passion is uplifting.

I have also had the chance to glimpse what rural ministry is like in Western Australia, through Peter Harvey a minister who was also visiting the centre. We visited the Livestock Mart on site with Revd Barbara Clutton who is the Chaplain, she then took us around part of her parish sharing with us what rural ministry is like for her.

On Tuesday Peter and I were invited to join the steering group meeting for CLiRC (Creative Leadership in the Rural Church) http://www.arthurrankcentre.org.uk/mission-and-ministry/clirc For anyone in a rural area, lay or ordained… or currently in training for ministry take a look at this course!

One of the project’s recommendations was that lay and ordained church leaders should be trained to develop the ‘entrepreneurial leadership style’, including project development and management skills. They should be supported and encouraged to start new community initiatives and social enterprise projects, and in helping Christian presences to be more effective in engaging with their communities.” – Quote from the website.

Listening to the conversations around the table I was astounded by the care and attention with which they are taking. Not just over the content they aim to produce in this programme, what stood out was the care they were wanting to put in place not just to support and help those participating in the programme, but also for the mentors who are going to be working with the participants.

Anyone in or considering rural ministry whether lay or ordained have a look and see if it is something that might be beneficial… if not for now, then keep it in mind for the future!

Today I have been introduced to the complex operation of the Young Farmers network and to LEAF (Linking environment and farming). Both organisations provide valuable services to specific groups within society, creating community and a love for the rural landscape in this country.
